After hours?

Here's a place to make suggestions that you would like to see at Alpine Meadows.

After hours?

Quit sending me to Squaw!

We need a bar and restaurant at the top of the mountain that is open late.

Sure theres the Ranch' at the highway entrance, but unless its wednesday I dont want to go there.

Lets make some night life please!

Not really, we don't... something like that would attract even more people. Those of us who ski Alpine ski it by choice, and because it is a ski area, with good terrain, and none (or at least less) of the bullshit that attracts tourists. You want nightlife? There are already places for that. Go to Heavenly. If you want to ski, and don't give a flying sack of shinbang about anything else, that's the kind of person Alpine caters to. Lets keep it that way.

EDIT: sorry, what I should have said is that "night life" can only happen where there are accomodations, and I don't see anybhotels being built at Alpine in the near future. I should also have mentioned that I'm 17 and live in the bay, so I'm neither a local nor of drinking age.

I agree with Piber we do need a place to get some food and drink after skiing, it doesnt have to stay open real late but maybe 7 o'clock would be nice. Its a bummer when i want to spend my money at alpine and get turned away. I usually go to all the alpine club parties and it nice to have something to do after skiing that doesnt involve driving somewhere else. I dont think offering food and drinks is going to attract anymore tourists than are already there. Who knows maybe a little extra income may help keep the mountain open a little later than april 15. Just my opinion though.

PJ-
I think you aren't in much of a place to comment on what Alpine doesn't need for Apres Ski spots. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're in High School, or fresh out, so you're not 21. Also, you live in the Bay Area. These two things, in my opinion, should be notes when you make comments about who should and who should not be welcome at Alpine. The most dedicated skiers I know want someplace to grab a few drinks and some grub right after the chair closes. It avoids the traffic on weekends going down the access road, and also is provides a great chance for friends to hang out and talk about their day skiing.

Try not to make comments that are so harsh about "people we don't want". Remember, you're a weekend warrior yourself, and at one time, you were a gaper. Families coming to ski, and people coming up for the day or weekend keep the chairs spinning into May; Not passholders.

Edit: Snowman. The crest is a pretty good choice, aside from being at the bottom of the hill. $1.5 PBRs all the time and happy hour prices on wings and pizzas.

You're getting a bit pushy there while on the disabled list. Feel free to voice an opinion on the topic, but attacking people personally is something that I hope does not happen too often here. There are other ski forums out there if you're into pointing out everyone else's flaws...if you want a bar and restaurant after hours, state your case.

The original post asked for such a facility at the top of the mountain. I definitely would argue against that. Since Alpine doesn't own it's land, it is a moot argument.

If we're talking about extended hours at the Last Chair, I think it's a fantastic idea.

good point... I came off a little harsher than I meant to, and I am still in highschool and living in the bay. So everything you said is right. What I probably should have said, and what I meant, is that we don't need to turn Alpine into the kind of destination resort (complete with village, hotels, sushi restaurants, etc) that we have in the next valley over. So I take back my harsher words, but I'll maintain that Alpine is not the place to seek a "nightlife". For Last Chair or even the food court to stay open longer would be great; I know how many times I have been disappointed not to be able to get a basket of fries at 4:01, but I don't think the word, nightlife, is a suitable descriptor.

I am all in favor of the Last Chair staying open as late as possible. RR and Crest are nice but at the mountain is better. Of course I may be biased since I live within walking distance....

I'd like a bar that felt more like a bar, and less like a room added onto a cafeteria. I would take something in a basement, loft, or any other under-used space over the Compactor and Last Chair. Better yet, something across the parking lot in its own building altogether. Something with soul.

And something not owned by JMA. Between Estelle Sports, the Tech shop, the caff, Last Chair, Compactor, The Chalet, and the Ice Bar, I'm a little company-towned out, know what I mean? I'm grateful that there's the Tasty - at least one place where I can step away from uniforms and company policies.
